Teck is a Data Analyst who has been at HomeStars since February 2019. Teck is no stranger to the kitchen, and when asked about his secret talent, he divulged that he can cook some Malaysian dishes with his eyes closed! Meet Teck by reading more about him below.
What is your role at HomeStars?
I am a Data Analyst and the objective of my role is to enable stakeholders with data they need to assist them in their daily tasks and provide insights through predictive analytics and reporting. Currently, a project that I’m super excited about is a customer retention project which revolves around predicting the prospect of a customer churning in the future. On a day to day basis, I also collaborate with others to produce Tableau Dashboards and create/maintain report workflows.
What makes you excited to come to work every day?
There are always new challenges or knowledge to discover even when doing typical tasks although sometimes, the former turns out to be incredibly frustrating!
What qualities do you look for in a teammate?
One of the qualities that I appreciate most in my teammates is the openness to learning and knowledge sharing, especially in areas where I might not be well-versed.
Additionally, I think having different thought processes and opinions allows you to perceive things from a different angle, which would be mutually beneficial to both me and my teammate.
When you aren’t at HomeStars, what are you doing?
I fill my time up with various activities such as taking courses or self-learning to upskill, experimenting with new recipes, reading, and watching tv.
How do you stay up to date within your evolving industry?
Usually, I would have a topic of interest where I’d like to expand my knowledge base through the internet whether it be going through white papers, blog posts, articles and experimenting with the methods that I read about. In my free time, I also take online courses, which have helped and proven useful on the job.
If you were a dish of food what would you be and why?
If I were a dish, I would be a chilli paste. At first, the chillies will numb out your tongue and you will suffer through it. But after a while, your tolerance towards it improves and you start enjoying the extra dimension of flavour it adds to your dishes. In that sense, it reflects me as I would put myself in a tough place learning something new but as I begin to master it, it opens up a whole new realm of possibilities.
