HomeStars Ranked Three Times by Great Place to Work®
Honoured with Best Workplaces™ in Canada, Best Workplaces™ for Inclusion and Best Workplaces™ Managed by Women
Toronto, ON – April 14, 2020 – Toronto-based HomeStars, Canada’s leading marketplace connecting homeowners with home service professionals, is delighted to announce that it has been ranked three times by Great Place to Work® including the prestigious Best Workplaces™ in Canada, Best Workplaces™ for Inclusion and Best Workplaces™ Managed by Women.
HomeStars received these honours after a thorough and independent analysis conducted by Great Place to Work®. Great Place to Work® publishes a series of Best Workplaces™ lists based on feedback from more than 300,000 employees at Great Place to Work Certified™ organizations across all industries in Canada. The data has a 90 percent confidence and a plus or minus five percent margin of error.
“The fact that our employees have voted us on these lists is really meaningful and reinforces our positive, inclusive culture which is even more apparent now that we are all working from home,” said Lauren Carroll, Manager of Human Resources at HomeStars. “We are supporting each other during these unprecedented times where teamwork is critical to our continued success.”
The 2020 Best Workplaces™ in Canada list is a competitive process based on two criteria: two-thirds of the total score comes from confidential employee survey results and the remaining one-third comes from an in-depth review of the organization’s culture. This offers a rigorous representation of the organization from an employee perspective and an overall portrait of the workplace culture. Together, they provide crucial data relative to five trust-building dimensions: credibility, respect, fairness, pride, and camaraderie.
This year’s list received over 400 registrations and over 80,000 employees participated in the 2020 “Best Workplaces™ in Canada” survey, rolling out to impact over 300,000 Canadian employees.
To be eligible for the Best Workplaces™ managed by Women, organizations must be Great Place to Work Certified™ in the past year and have a female president or CEO. Nancy Peterson is the CEO of HomeStars and founded the company in 2006. The company’s leadership team is also majority female. To quality, employees complete an anonymous Trust Index© survey, answering questions about how frequently they experience behaviours that create a great workplace, including the transparency of communication, degree of collaboration, quality of benefits programs, opportunity for professional development, and support for work-life balance.
In the case of the Inclusion list, organizations must be Great Place to Work Certified™ in the past year and at least 90 percent of employees must agree they are treated fairly, regardless of personal characteristics; such as gender, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation.
Over the last 30 years, Great Place to Work® has performed in-depth research into what makes an organization great. While much has changed in the workplace in the last three decades, one thing remains constant: a high-trust, high-performing culture is essential to becoming a great workplace. Research has revealed that there are a proven set of strategic investments that Best Workplaces make to develop and sustain a high-trust culture – ultimately driving their leading brand and performance in the marketplace.
