Planning and executing a home renovation project can be difficult to handle alone. Plus, DIY doesn’t always end well, which is why there are thousands of pros available to help with your project. If your project involves more than one trade, requires permits, or is going to take longer than a week, we suggest that you hire a general contractor. When Corey from Ajax was looking to renovate their unfinished basement, they hired Home Improvement People Inc. Read on to learn how their project turned out.
Basement Renovation for $60,000 in Ajax
Corey was looking to renovate their unfinished basement. With the basement being unfinished, they never spent time down there and felt that it was a waste of space. As they were spending more time at home, they were looking to transform it into a space that they could use. After meeting with the HIP team, they were confident that the finished basement was going to be outstanding.
Right from the start, HIP was clear about the process, expectations, and details of the project. After running through various design options, Corey and the team decided on a style that would match the rest of the house. From there, they were given a clear quote, expected timeline and work began.
Throughout the project, Corey was able to communicate with the HIP team easily and effectively. If something wasn’t right Corey let them know and they handled it without hesitation. Further, HIP communicated with Corey on a daily basis. HIP informed Corey of which trades were going to be at the house that day, what they were doing, and what was completed every day. For this reason, the project was finished within the timeline given (8 weeks). Plus, there wasn’t a single day where Corey felt out of the loop.
In the end, the basement is exactly what Corey had envisioned. Corey emphasized that they weren’t looking for a plain, open space. Rather, they wanted a space that would be functional while also matching the rest of their home’s vibe. They are now left with a fully functional basement, including a bathroom, bedroom, TV room, and entertainment space. Corey was so happy that after the job was complete, they claimed that “this may have become our new favourite part of the house.” You can see more photos of the finished basement here.
If a project is going to require more than one trade or subcontractor, take longer than a week, and require permits, it’s best to hire a general contractor. Attempting to hire multiple trades or subcontractors while managing the timing and details of a job of that size isn’t possible on your own. General contractors can take the stress out of your project by overseeing the entire thing. With their experience, they can hire, schedule, and complete larger jobs with no conflicts.
