HomeStars is proud to shine a light on employees that hustle hard to embody our award-winning culture and we want you to want to join them! Get to know your future teammates, why they love working at HomeStars, and what they’re doing outside of work!
Say came into HomeStars and immediately took up our shared goal of building out a new platform towards HomeStars Pro, working with a small team to help us get this off the ground. Since then, he’s helped us navigate the shifting landscape of our build, working closely with not only our Product and Engineering teams, but across the organization to bring to life various features across HomeStars Pro to help take this product to primetime. His ownership and consistent willingness to learn and adapt have been a huge help to getting this new product to where it is today. Read on to learn more about Say!
What is your role at HomeStars?
I lead the growth and success of our customer base from the Product side by deeply knowing our users’ needs and desires, marrying those insights with our organizational objectives to set the direction for Engineering and Design to deliver delighting software.
Nowadays, along with my great team of developers, designers and leadership, we are building our next-gen flagship product, which will allow Service Pros and Homeowners to get the best out of our platform while laying the foundation for a scalable HomeStars organization.
What makes you excited to come to work every day?
I get excited and motivated to start the day knowing that it will be full of learning opportunities for me, to become a better version of myself day by day, build meaningful relationships and while doing so, ship fantastic products and features.
When you aren’t at HomeStars, what are you doing?
My friends would jokingly answer this question on my behalf as “everything.” Maybe a fitting quality for a Product Manager, I have a reputation to be interested in many (sometimes too many) things. The easiest way to answer this question for me would be to provide ideal programming to a festival I would organize:
Location: Costa Rican jungle
Early morning: Breathing exercises and meditation
Morning: Reading non-fiction books about wellness
Before noon: Collect garden vegetables
Lunchtime: A collective cooking workshop followed by kayaking
Afternoon: Make music and talk about the universe
Evening: Dance, dance and dance
What is your proudest HomeStars moment?
My proudest moment at work is every single moment where I, along with my teammates, witness that we’ve managed to create an inclusive space where people can bring their true selves, and the best version of themselves to work. I find it’s upon all of us to do our part to create an environment where people feel belonging to, can discuss ideas freely, speak up when they feel it’s needed. There is nothing at work that makes me happier than seeing this in action in my teams.
What is the best piece of advice you have gotten working here?
Focus on what matters. You can’t solve all the problems in the world, but only the most important ones. It is difficult to leave problems alone. However, a great business leader, especially a Product leader needs to internalize that there aren’t enough brain cells in the world to solve every single problem.
As a child what was your dream job?
As a child (and even today), my dream job was to be an Astronaut. I haven’t had a chance to have this specific growth plan conversation with the HomeStars leadership yet. I may have to ask Shir to diversify HomeStars and open up a Space branch.
I was a child whose eyes were always looking up to the stars on clear nights. I still hope to go to space in the future, probably in a tourism capacity rather than running hundreds of physics experiments aboard the International Space Station. This might change if Chris Hadfield agrees to come with me and sing a duet while on the ISS. Time will tell.
