Colleen is a Senior Product Manager who has been at HomeStars since January 2010 and loves being able to creatively solve problems with others daily at work. The animal she most identifies with is an orca because its a highly social apex predator, fast swimmer and has slick style. Meet Colleen by learning more about her below!
What is your role at HomeStars?
I am a Senior Product Manager. I work with our Product and Engineering teams to create products that improve our users’ experience. I’m working with a team of engineers right now to create an improved algorithm for matching homeowners with the right service pro for their job.
What has your journey at HomeStars been like so far?
I started at HomeStars over 10 years ago as the Content Manager. My main focus in that role was developing and maintaining the integrity of our review approval process. Since HomeStars was very new, with a small team at the time, I would say I’ve worn many hats but most of my experience falls within the Content and Marketing departments.
In 2015 I started in the first (and my first) Product role at HomeStars. I’ve been so lucky to work with so many talented people who have helped me along the way. From talking to homeowners and service professionals at our Home Show booths across the country to working with super talented Software Developers to create the algorithm for StarScore, I’m very grateful for my journey at HomeStars.
When you aren’t at HomeStars, what are you doing?
I have two young sons so spending time with them and my husband, creating memories and having fun is my top priority. Realistically, I’m probably cleaning the kitchen or doing laundry.
If you could trade jobs with someone at HomeStars for a day, who would it be and why?
Probably someone in a data analytics role. Data is so critical to making informed decisions and I just can’t get at it as fast or synthesize it as well as Kishawna or Zainab, for example.
What was your first job?
My first job was when I was maybe 9. The local newspaper delivery boys would collect payment from their customers, come to my house every two weeks to pay their bill to the Newspaper, and they’d keep the rest. I kept track of their bills, organized the money and ledger, and submitted the tallies at the end of the week. My mother got the job but I did all the work and she gave me the pay. I think I got like $20 a month for that job. I eventually got a route myself, because that’s where the real money was.
What is your secret talent?
I’m amazing at jump rope. Speed and double unders are my specialties. Also, artful woodburning designs via magnifying glass — total pro. I’m 10 years old.
