At HomeStars we see tens of thousands of home projects during the year that are unusual or worthy of special mention. It was pretty difficult to narrow our choice down to 6 for 2016, but we did it! Here are our favourites.
Company: Hunt Heritage Masonry
The facade of this gorgeous 1882 Victorian home was covered by several coats of paint under which lay the original bricks, many of them badly damaged. The only way the contractor was able to complete the restoration was to rebuild the façade using new matching bricks where the originals could not be saved. Additionally, the company painted all the woodwork, refinished the original wood lintels and sills, and created an ornamental Victorian-character bargeboard. The beautiful Grande Dame stands proud again!
Company: Space Solutions
Many of the homeowners in the HomeStars community are condo dwellers, so we wanted to include this space-saving solution that also looks great in our 2016 Special Mentions. As the owner of this condominium put it, ‘the den in most condos is a useless bit of a space, especially in a 700 square foot condo with a 9’x7′ den’. The homeowner elected to install a Murphy Bed which turned out fabulously in this small space.
Company: Premier Stairs and Floors Inc.
We love this gorgeous, elegant staircase encased in glass, and thought it worthy of special mention. What a huge improvement over the rug-clad stairs and oak railings.
Company: Princess Perfect Upholstery
This upcycling project is near and dear to our hearts. What a fabulous result for this beautiful old chair that found itself in the dump. Kudos to the homeowner who took the time to pick this chair up from the garbage, and restore it to its former mid-century glory.
Company: Pro Weld
There is no world in which this infinity deck isn’t simply perfect. We adore the endless feel of the deck, maximizing views of the stunning natural surroundings. You can almost smell the fresh pine needles and feel the warm breeze on your skin.
Company: Tailored Living Featuring Premier Garage
For those homeowners who have a garage, this may make you drool uncontrollably. So clean! So neat and organized!!
