I would like to take this opportunity to remember Paul Maasland, a member of the board at HomeStars and a wonderful man. I’m in Vancouver this week for the fall home show and unable to attend his funeral today. I heard the news of his mysterious and tragic death over the weekend and I’d like to offer his family my deepest condolences. The news is shocking.
I met Paul three years ago at the Maple Leaf Angel office with my colleague Andrew Goodman. We were presenting HomeStars during a round of due diligence as part of our fund raising campaign. I’ll never forget his reaction at the end of our pitch. Paul was the first person to stand up and say with enthusiasm, “I’m in!” He relayed to the rest of the group his own experience of hiring contractors and how he believed this was an idea that made sense. Paul helped us gather more investors and became an invaluable advisor over the past three years. He visited our office every 2-3 months and offered guidance and support, listening to our progress and thinking ahead on ways he could help us grow. Paul was a successful Canadian entrepreneur and a mentor for us. His glass was always full.
Thank you Paul. We will miss you.
