There is an old expression that originated in horse racing circa 1913 that is still used today – that saying is:
“I got it straight from the horse’s mouth”
It expressed the idea that certain betting tips had come from the most knowledgeable people – that is, those closest to the horse.
Today, it refers to the process of receiving information directly from the highest and most trusted source, as opposed to assuming the answer or obtaining it via a third party. When dealing with the law, this expression truly holds, because it is wise to seek knowledgeable and experienced guidance.
Starting next week, you will see a number of blog posts on different legal topics that are relevant to home improvement.
In the home renovations and improvement industry, there are times when home owners and home improvement service providers come into disagreement over payment or quality of work done. You may be using HomeStars to avoid such situations, or to complain about them. But there are many cases where you may feel dissatisfied with this solution and where you would like to take additional steps to improve your situation, all while trying to figure out how to not get into lengthy and expensive legal battles. In my blog posts, I will be covering some typical situations, and some strategies and tips on how to deal with them. I will also cover some basic relevant legal concepts, such as how to write contracts, what certain legal terms and jargons mean, and how to navigate the legal system. And since we, at My Legal Briefcase, have had quite a bit of experience with small claims courts, we will share some tips about it and what to expect when going into a small claims.
