Art
This is probably one of the first things that comes to mind when you think of fireplace mantel decor. It is a great way to add some interest to the room, and potentially even a pop of colour. The only downfall of this option is the price factor as art tends to run at higher end of most people’s budgets.
Mirror
If you want to add some detail to your living space but do not want to spend a ton of money on some art, a mirror is the perfect solution. Mirrors are also a great addition to smaller rooms as they reflect light, making the space seem larger and brighter than it actually is. Because of all of this, mirrors tend to be a popular option for fireplace mantel decor.
Television
Mounting your television over top of your fireplace tends to be a popular option for many living room spaces. Despite this, some find a television an eye sore and therefore are turned off by this option. Have no fear, there are many options that you can purchase that are meant to hide your television from plain sight when it is not being used. The photo below is just one example of how this can be done, but many install small, sliding barn doors, or shutters.
Greenery
Who doesn’t like a little greenery in a room? Instead of placing plants on coffee or side tables, try adding them to your fireplace mantel in order to add some colour to the space. This option is more practical for those who do not tend to light their fireplace often as the plant may potentially die from the heat provided by the fireplace (depending on the plant).
Seasonal Decorations
Adding some seasonal decorations to your fireplace mantel is a sure fire way to create a festive vibe within your home. Although we tend to think of Christmas when we think of seasonal fireplace decor, get creative and decorate for other holidays around the calendar like Halloween, Valentine’s Day or Easter.
Lighting
Little lamps like these are a cute addition to any sort of living space, whether it be a living room or bedroom. Practical and stylish, adding lighting above your fireplace is a great option if you do not have a working fireplace. Opt for warmer coloured light bulbs to mimic the glow of a real fire.
Fireplaces provide more than just warmth on the chilliest of days, they become focal points within the room. This is why it is so necessary to decorate them in a way that showcases their design potential. Let us know if you can think of any other design tips that we missed out on.
