Leah is a Software Engineer that has worked at HomeStars since May 2019. She is excited to come to work and solve interesting challenges every day. Her secret talent is making low calorie baked goods that don’t taste like cardboard! Meet Leah by learning more about her below!
What is your role at HomeStars?
I am a software developer. I help build features that make the website and the systems that support our product offerings.
If you could trade jobs with someone at HomeStars for a day who would it be and why?
I’ve always been curious how marketing works — I think it would be interesting to work on the social media and automated marketing campaigns for a day to see how that all runs.
What qualities do you look for in a teammate?
Someone who is competent, a good communicator and passes the airport test.
How do you stay up to date within your evolving industry?
I subscribe to email newsletters so I can briefly get a gist of the latest technology changes. I also do a lot of online courses and have started reading development books with a book club — where we meet weekly to discuss the material learnt and share code samples.
What is the best piece of advice you have gotten working here?
To think in terms of business missions and goals. As a developer it’s easy to get focused on building and lose sight of the bigger picture — building what matters and that’s often what aligns with business goals.
