Being at home more than usual may give you the itch to redecorate. While you’re not able to bring in a professional interior designer right now, there are still many things you can do on your own. Sometimes simply editing what we already have can make a big difference. Scratch that redecorating itch by following these tips for easy ways to redecorate your rooms.
Create Zones
While it is easy to get carried away when wanting to display items in your house, try not to overcrowd. You want to keep furniture pieces to a minimum, ensuring there is space to walk around. Don’t crowd everything on one wall either, try spreading your pieces around.
If your living room is also your family room, and possibly your dining space, try separating by creating different zones. Add an area rug under your dining room table to show the space has a designated function. You can also add side tables in your family room to create a room barrier displaying where the room transitions. This will allow you to have individual mini rooms inside of one big room.
Add Atmosphere
Creating a new atmosphere can be done with a few small changes. Try painting an accent wall and displaying a large piece of artwork on it for the room’s focal point. Add textured throw pillows or a statement rug to spice it up without buying all new furniture. Remove your blinds and replace them with floor to ceiling drapes to heighten the ceilings, and make the space seem bigger. Switch your lights out for dimmers, and add a scented candle to set a different mood in each area.
Less is More
Often when we think of redecorating a room, we think of adding items to change its look. Contrary to that belief, having minimal features leaves a bigger statement. Try removing some blankets, decorative items, and picture frames, leaving only a few important ones to stand out. Editing back can give you a bigger impact in any room. For example, only have the few main items you use on your bathroom counter, and store the rest under the sink, or on shelves. Keep the space clutter-free with minimal objects for a less is more look.
You may feel as if you do not have an eye for design the way pros do, however, you can still redecorate the rooms in your house. By following our easy tips you can become your own designer. Move furniture around to visually create separate zones, add some atmosphere and edit your possessions for a fresh look. Have fun playing around with your home’s decor right now. Remember, you can always redecorate!
