Javier Lirman is the president and founder of Cargo Cabbie, a 5-time HomeStars “Best Of” award winning moving company in Toronto. We spoke with Javier to learn more about being a business owner and how he turned a run-away moving van into a successful business opportunity.
What is your company and what do you do?
Cargo Cabbie is an established packing and moving company that specializes in high-quality professional service and customer care. We provide tailored home and office relocation and offer packing supplies, eco-friendly bin rentals, furniture assembly and an onsite and online Box Shop.
Why did you decide to start your company?
I had to find out the hard way that there are good and bad moving companies. When I first moved to Canada, I hired a cheap moving company online that ended up costing me more than I bargained for. The company seemed legitimate and the price was right so what could go wrong?
On the day of the move, I was driving behind the truck and hit a red light. The moving truck kept going. Well, my belongings were stolen and I used this opportunity to create one of Toronto’s most successful and reliable full service moving companies with a goal to transform the moving industry.
Have there been any surprises in owning a company? Things you didn’t expect?
Absolutely, there is a flurry of moving companies in Toronto both online and on the road and part of the challenge is educating clients about the difference between the good and the bad. We also rely on the community we serve to help educate the market and improve the industry through word of mouth and online reviews.
