By spending a large part of last year at home, you may have decided to invest some money into it. Perhaps you’re planning for the future, or simply want to update a space to make it more practical. Either way, investing into your home now will add value and also make it more comfortable for the time being. Especially today, where you might be at home for extended periods during the day, and possibly have a full house, upgrades can make living more comfortable. This was the case for Pam’s family in St. Thomas, Ontario. Their bathroom was in major need of an upgrade so they hired Furtah General Contracting to help them out.
Pam was well aware that their bathroom needed a major renovation, and with everyone home all the time, they decided now was the time to do it. This bathroom renovation included updating all existing fixtures, including the shower and vanity, as well as enlarging the space to make it more functional. They also had all of the plumbing and electrical updated, which is not a small task.
Shower & Tub
Pam’s current bathroom was dated. The fixtures were old and the space was small. While the bathroom was still functional, it could definitely be improved upon. With this in mind, they decided to enlarge the shower space and add a soaker tub. By enlarging the shower, the tiles can act as an accent wall in the bathroom. If you decide to install a nice tile in your shower, choosing a glass door will allow the design to be seen and add to the aesthetics of the space.
The addition of the soaker tub in the bathroom adds value to the space. Soaker tubs provide an aesthetically pleasing look, and if you’re a fan of taking baths, then they are perfect. They are also seen as valuable to households with younger children, as it is easier to bathe in a tub rather than a shower.
Vanity
There are many benefits to updating your vanity. Aesthetics is one of the main reasons, however, increased counter space, storage, and organization are others. Now, with a fully functional vanity, any clutter can be stored away and there is optimal counter space to get ready for the day. Another plus is that vanities are very customizable and can be created for any home and style. Be sure to consult with a pro to choose a style and design that suits your home.
Plumbing & Electrical
If your bathroom is older and hasn’t been updated in a while it’s important to have your plumbing and electrical inspected. With a room that is used as often as it is, there could be hidden damage behind the walls that could become hazardous and cost your money in the future. Pam understood the importance of updating plumbing and electrical and since they were already going to be renovating the space, they decided to update it all at once.
Plumbing work is very sensitive, and if it hasn’t been inspected in a long time, there could be unknown leaks that could be contributing to mould growth or other safety hazards. Updating the plumbing will ensure there are no leaks and the work is done to code to protect you and your home.
Electrical work might not be installed to code, especially in an older home. If you suspect your electrical work to be old, have a pro inspect it asap. With plumbing and electrical so close together, it’s important that both are to code to prevent accidents or injuries. Pam was happy to know that both plumbing and electrical were now up-to-date and to code.
There’s no time like the present to invest in your home. From small to large renovations, any upgrade can make a huge difference.
