Local Fundraising Programs

What We Can Do For Your Cause

HomeStars.com — a site where homeowners read and write reviews on home improvement companies — would like to increase it’s usefulness in the communities it serves and help community members raise needed funds for local schools, sports programs, and grassroots causes.

Associations that are raising funds can initiate a program with us; HomeStars will donate $10 per published review.

How it Works

HomeStars will set up a landing page and URL to track people who register and write reviews to contribute to your cause. (for example https://homestars.com/your_program_name ).

In the example below, people typing in the link http://homestars.com/childrens_wish can register, write reviews and HomeStars donates to the Children’s Wish Foundation for each review published.

Q&A

Q: How can we initiate this?

A: Send fundraising@homestars.com the details around your fundraiser, your logo, charitable number (if it exists) and timing for your fundraiser.

Q: Is there a maximum amount HomeStars will donate?

A: Not at this time. If a fundraiser gets 500 reviews written, they will receive a cheque for $5000.

Q: How long can the program run?

A: The start and end date can be decided by the organization. Our learning is to do it over a 4 week time frame to create a sense of urgency and get contributors writing the reviews in a timely manner.

Q: When do we get the money?

A: As soon as the program ends, HomeStars will send a cheque to the charity organizer.

Q: Can this be an annual event?

A: Yes absolutely! Notify us when you want to start the program again.

Q: How should we promote this?

A: Ideally someone on the charitable committee should lead the communication to potential contributors through newsletters or emails. We can send you a sample to get you started.

Q: Why is HomeStars doing this?

A: To continue building HomeStars as a useful local resource that helps your community – and what better way than by giving to fundraisers that need our help?  Nancy Peterson founded the company in 2006 in Toronto, and now the team has grown across Canada. As a mother of two boys, she knows how challenging school fundraising activities can be; this program is idea for local teams, charities and schools to raise needed funds within their community – a sort of digital alternative to the traditional door-to-door chocolate sales.

We want to offer this to community programs throughout Canada who could use our support. We all benefit from the reviews that make HomeStars a trusted resource to find trustworthy home improvement companies.
