The official tax year has drawn to a close but chances for rebates and savings on home renovations are still possible.
While an ecoENERGY Retrofit – Homes grant can only be received by homeowners who booked a pre-retrofit evaluation by March 31, 2010, provincial rebates are available. Homeowners need to upgrade their homes for better energy efficiency by March 31, 2011 to be eligible for provincial rebates.
In Ontario, the Home Energy Savings Program (OHESP) closes on March 31st, 2011. To qualify your two home energy audits need to be completed. The first energy audit must be completed before you renovate which is required if you to qualify to allowable rebates and grants. The second energy audit is completed after upgrades are finished and by March 31, 2011.
The Home Energy Assistance Toronto (HEAT) program is ideal if you are a Toronto homeowner who needs to upgrade your home insulation.
LiveSmart BC is British Columbia’s efficiency incentive program. Eligible homeowners can only participate in this program once for each property they own.
Utilities such as BC Hydro,Terasen Gas, Hydro One, Enbridge, and others, provide homeowners with savings and rebates when you upgrade to ENERGY STAR qualified products. Savings are typically ongoing so make plans to upgrade to ENERGY STAR products in 2011.
