Is social media your prize winning pig? Think again.

At HomeStars we are exposed to both sides of the advertising and promotions world. We are no stranger to the traditional model but (obviously) place a lot of stake in social media as well.

That’s where we got the idea for our next event, which is a part of Social Media Week Toronto. We’re hosting a debate and inviting the audience to participate and to be exposed to new perspectives. We really want to get away from the social media “guru” standing up at the front of the stage and talking AT the crowd.

The Event

On Tuesday Feb 8 @ 6:00pm come to The Garrison. Each person will be put on a side but no one knows the exact topic until we’re about to begin. The night will start hearing the opinions of business owners and continue on hearing the opinions of the crowd, everyone discussing what they think the future of social media is.

What makes you think that social media is the future of advertising? Does traditional advertising have a breaking point?

Registration

At this point, registration for our event is already filled up! I am talking with the organizers to opening it up to more people. I’ll post an update once that happens. In the meantime, you can leave  a comment to let us know that you are interested in attending or you can keep checking the schedule to see when that happens.

What is Social Media Week Toronto?

Also known as SMWTO, this week long event is the ultimate “un-conference” that connects people, content and conversations around emerging trends in social media. Social Media Week is hosted all across the globe, in New York, San Fran, Rome, Paris, Sao Paulo, London, Hong Kong, Istanbul and, of course, Toronto

How does it work?

It’s free, so the bulk of the work comes from the hard work of the amazing organizers and people who volunteer. Everyone has the opportunity to pitch an event idea, and if you get picked, then it’s your responsibility to host and manage the event. You can also participate by volunteering so take a look at the site and see what interests you.
