A Do-it-Yourself hardwood flooring option with environmental benefits

I’ve talked about my disasterous DIY misadventures before. While I imagine I’m Bob Vila, DIYer extraordinaire, the reality is starkly different. However, I know that there are several of you out there who are not only competent at home projects, but prefer to do them yourselves. Bearing that in mind, I thought I’d pass along some information I received a few weeks ago about a new “Eco-clic” hardwood flooring available from Tarkett, a Canadian manufacturer.

“Eco-clic” hardwood flooring is considered to be highly efficient because the manufacturing process is able to get 30 times more hardwood out of one tree than traditional milling methods. Further, because the wood layers are installed on a multi-plywood board the pieces are less susceptible to expansion and shrinkage from humidity changes.

If you’re a do-it-yourselfer, you can install the floor yourself as the system snaps into place without the need for glues or nails. The boards can be moved and reused up to three times without losing the integrity of the system.

The details:

The flooring is available in various wood varieties from birch, maple, to sapelli and merbau and is available in nine different colours. The finish is guaranteed for 25 years, and is scratch and dent resistant.   All wood comes from Forest Stewardship Council certified forests from around the world and the planks are milled in China.

Cost ranges from $5.99-$6.99 per square foot. Tarkett is available through Alexanian’s and other specialty flooring retailers. For more information on retailers, visit their website.

Note: The flooring can also be installed by a professional floor layer. Check our website for reviews on a floor layer near you.
